People sometimes ask me: “Luke, why’d you call your PT business Live-well?”.
Why didn’t I go with “BigMuscles.com”, “Fat Burn Express” or “Punch Fit”? All fair enough alternatives, by the way.
I originally got into my own exercise training at 13 years old, for very literal reasons of getting bigger, stronger and also building self-confidence. I started out in my bedroom with a pair of plastic 2kg dumbbells I brought for £2.50 from a boot sale (it was the very early 00’s). Admittedly, I did a Lot of bicep curls and shoulder presses, and not too much else. But I was having fun! And I initially found the sanctuary of my room safe, and truly helped ease other troubles out in the “big bad” world outside..
A few years later, I made my way to a local “rough and ready” but very welcoming gym. I could not get enough of lifting weights for three hours at a time (sometimes with questionable technique…), later I’d head home and eat three bananas and a pint of milk as a post workout meal. Not exactly balanced, but I was just a newbie to understanding my body and what it needed. 🥛🍌🍌🍌

I appreciated the friendly community of the local gym users, it was a classic body building gym, I found that the people there were very kind with their time and welcomed this super shy mumbling kid onto the gym floor, four to five days a week.
I loved exercise! But what I soon learned also was that I gained as much benefit, if not more at times, from the mental aspects of movement. I did indeed gain self-confidence, which was actually a factor which helped bring me out of depression. Alongside created motivation and momentum, not just for training, but for life itself.
I’m only really touching upon this, but it would be fair to say healthy living had a huge positive impact upon my life. Mind and body.
By the time I had reached 20 years old, I realised that I wanted to share these benefits with the general public. And that’s when I decided to qualify as a personal trainer. First starting out showing customers of a local gym how to use machines – to then working one to one with clients to help them with their specific health and fitness goals as a personal trainer.

18 years in the industry and 1000’s of sessions later, and I’m so grateful to have the opportunity to help the people around me.
I also notice that my motivation to help others has a rebound effect upon me too. Like a trade of energy. And I thank everyone for that!
So… Why “Live-well”?
To me this name serves as a great over arching title for anyone of all walks of life to resonate with it in a way which is right for them. That was my plan anyway! It could mean you are getting physically fitter, or more energised day-to-day. It could be the quality of your nutrition or helping with the balance of your happiness and wellbeing. Everyone can take what they need from it. When I think about it, the reason I “Live-well” changes all the time! And that’s fine.
My current goal is for everyone I have the honour of sharing time with, is to continue breaking our PB goals, truly enjoy and appreciate using our bodies and in the long run - also create better mental clarity within our lives. 💪😁🧠
